Sheryl Hunter Griffith, D.D.S.
Dr.
Sheryl Hunter Griffith is a native of the Houston area. She
attended the University of Houston at Clear Lake City, then, the
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; obtaining a
Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1982. She practiced General
Dentistry; then, returned to UTHSCSA, graduating in 1987 with a
Post-Doctoral Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. While attending
the University of Houston, she worked at the Johnson Space Center as a
Data Processing Analyst for the Space Shuttle during its development.
Dr.
Griffith is involved in numerous dental organizations which promote
research, education, prevention and restoration of dental diseases.
Among these are the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the
American Dental Association, the Houston Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,
and the Greater Houston Dental Society.
Sheryl
and her husband have three children. Her hobbies include walking,
cooking, music, and gardening.

Laji J. James, D.D.S.
Dr.
Laji James is an enthusiastic and gentle dentist who strives for
clinical excellence in dentistry and an exceptional dental experience
for each child he meets. He
believes that dentistry for the infant, child, and adolescent should be
focused on prevention of dental disease through education about oral
hygiene, nutrition, and a coordinated approach between parents and the
dental team. Dr. James and
his team strive to make dental visits positive for youngsters through a
unique combination of patience, fun, and teaching.
Dr. James has
been a proud resident of Houston, Texas since 1980. He has an
extensive academic background with a very strong work ethic.
Dr. James graduated from Bellaire High School with high honors (magna
cum laude). He then
earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity University in San
Antonio and graduated again with high honors (magna
cum laude). Dr. James then received his dental degree and
specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio graduating in the top of his class
with honors (cum laude) and
several awards and scholarships.
Dr. James has
extensive training in pediatric dentistry and various aspects of
pediatric medicine. Dr.
James completed a two-year residency in pediatric dentistry after
graduating from dental school.
His training included externships at Texas Scottish Rite
Hospital, Childrens
Hospital
of Dallas, and
Cincinnati Childrens Hospital.
Dr. James also received Anesthesiology training at University
Hospital in San Antonio, Hematology and Pediatric Medicine at Christus
Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. He is Board Certified in Pediatric
Dentistry by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and has been
designated as a Diplomate.
Dr. James is a
member of numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American
Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Houston Academy of
Pediatric Dentistry and the Greater Houston Dental Society. He has
held various leadership positions in these organizations and volunteered
his time to numerous community projects.
He has served as the President of the Houston Academy of
Pediatric Dentistry and currently serves on the Peer Review Committee of
the Greater Houston Dental Society.
He has chaired community outreach programs such as Give Kids A
Smile Day at the University of Texas Dental School.
Dr. James has made several mission trips to
Mexico
with the Christian Medical and Dental Society.
Dr. James also enjoyed conducting dental research as a
student and resident and has published articles in several scientific
journals. For two
consecutive years, he won 1st place at the annual Research
Science Symposium at the University of Texas Health Science Center.
While at UT, he was awarded the Pierre Fauchard Academy Dental
Scholarship Award, Franklin M. Dolwick Oral Surgery Scholarship, ASDA
Award of Excellence, UTHSCSA Alumni Scholarship, and American Society of
Dentistry for Children Award.
Dr. James is
dedicated to the oral healthcare of children and is an earnest child
advocate. He strives for excellence in practice by continuing
educational opportunities with special focus in nutrition, growth, and
development.
Dr. James and his wife have two children, Sophia and
Nathan. His favorite hobbies include reading, music and travel.
V. Kayron Dube, D.D.S.
Dr.
Dube is a native Texan. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a
degree in microbiology. After graduating magna cum laude from A&M she
accepted a position at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin, Germany to
work on various projects in molecular genetics. She continued her post
graduate education in molecular genetics as a Mayo Fellow in Minnesota
before returning to Houston to begin dental school at the University of
Texas Dental Branch. Dr. Dube completed dental school in 1981 and
specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry in 1983. She entered private
practice in 1983 and devoted her professional career to developing a
pediatric dental practice with a focus on longitudinal treatment goals
emphasizing caries prevention, growth and development of the face and
jaws, and prevention of sports related injuries. Dr. Dube is a member of
numerous professional organizations and has published articles on
pediatric dentistry in various textbooks, professional journals,
magazines and newspapers. She has served as President of the Greater
Houston Dental Society and the Houston Academy of Pediatric Dentistry,
and has been an active community volunteer. Dr. Dube maintained a
thriving practice in the West University/Medical Center area for over 20
years and retired from her private practice in November 2003. She
continues her efforts as an advocate for childrens oral health, seeing
patients 2 days a week. The remainder of her time is spent in Dime Box,
Texas where she enjoys gardening and ranching utilizing sustainable
management practices.
Katherine Pazmiņo, D.D.S., M.S.D.
Dr.
Katherine Pazmiņo was raised in El Paso where she grew up natively
speaking both English and Spanish. She received her Bachelor of Arts
degree from Duke University, one of the top undergraduate programs in
the world. She then graduated from the first dental school in the world,
the University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, earning
the Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from one of the most acclaimed
worldwide programs. Recognizing that children have unique needs and
require special care, she pursued a post-doctoral pediatric residency
program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston
located in the Texas Medical Center where she was honored to receive the
Peabody Award granted to the top resident in the program. Dr Pazmiņo
earned her Masters of Science in Dentistry for her research exploring
access to dental care for patients with congenital bleeding disorders.
Dr. Pazmiņo continues to share her skills and time as Clinical Assistant
Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston
Dental Branch in downtown Houston.
Dr. Pazmiņo is a member of the Houston Academy of
Pediatric Dentistry, Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American
Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Hispanic Dental Association, and
American Dental Association. Her compassionate professional manner has
been recognized through numerous awards and scholarships including the
Howard Van Natta Memorial Scholarship, the Delta Dental Student
Leadership Award, the Eleanor Bushee American Association of Women
Dentists Senior Woman Dental Award, the Maryland Society of Dentistry
for Children Humanities Award for a career of volunteerism to help
children in need, the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for outstanding and
dedicated service to the profession, and the Peabody Award. Dr. Pazmiņo
was the first dental recipient of prestigious Albert Schweitzer
Fellowship, pioneering the namesakes mission of humanitarianism into
dentistry.
Dr. Pazmiņo and her husband enjoy spending quality
time with family, traveling and seeing the wonders of the world, and
watching sports, especially Duke mens college basketball. They enjoy
exploring Houston through restaurants, theater, and time outdoors.
Jennifer Kong, D.D.S.
While
not a native Texan, as they say, Dr. Jennifer Kong got here as soon as
she could. Her family moved to Houston when she was only four years old.
Dr. Kong grew up in the Alief area prior to moving to Bellaire, Texas.
She graduated magma cum laude from Bellaire High School, and cum laude
from Rice University with a degree in Economics. Eager to utilize her
analytical skills and economics background, Dr. Kong initially pursued a
career in the Energy Industry as an analyst. She worked on the trading
floors of four major energy companies in the capacity of fundamental
market analysis and risk management.
During a quarter-life crisis, Dr. Kong
decided that working in front of a computer all day was not her passion.
In the search for another career, she found the perfect blend of
science, art, and human interaction in the profession of dentistry. She
enthusiastically completed her dental training at the University of
Texas School of Dentistry in Houston where she graduated with numerous
distinctions: election to the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental
Honor Society, the AAPD Predoctoral Student Award, the Quintessence
Award for Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry, the Mu Mu
Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Scholarship Award, Outstanding
Achievement in the Department of Prosthodontics, and the Deans Student
Excellence List. Additionally, to help broaden her clinical experiences
while in dental school, Dr. Kong completed externships at the Ohio State
University/Nationwide Childrens Hospital Pediatric Dental Clinic, in
Columbus, OH, and at the Indian Health Services, Native American Health
Center, in San Francisco, CA.
Through her volunteer activities and
patient interactions during dental school, Dr. Kong realized again what
she had always known: that she loves working with children! This
realization helped guide her to pursue an advanced education in
pediatric dentistry at the University of Texas School of Dentistry,
where she graduated with a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Kong
feels so fortunate to have found and changed to such a wonderful
profession. She looks forward to working with your family in providing
optimal oral care for your children.
Dr. Kong and her husband have one daughter, Madeline,
and a wonderful rescue dog Dodgeit (pronounced "Dodge-it!")who has
cultivated Maddie's love of dogs. A former physical fitness enthusiast,
Dr. Kong now works out by chasing after both daughter and dog.
